Position eligible for a sign-on bonus

The Youth Care Worker (YCW) is responsible for providing direct supervision and care for children in a VQ residential environment. This

role involves creating a secure atmosphere that promotes learning and behavioral management in a supportive manner, adhering to VQ, local, state, and federal guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Child Supervision and Interaction:
o Ensure constant supervision of children in care, maintaining visual contact at all times.

o Oversee activities during recreation, mealtime, leisure, and play.

o Build positive relationships with youth, serving as a role model to foster a safe and nurturing environment using a trauma-informed approach.

o Instruct, mentor, and supervise children in daily living activities, including morning and bedtime routines, hygiene, housekeeping, meals, sports, academics, and extracurricular activities both on-site and off-site.

o Engage with children through games and recreational activities.

o Conduct orientation and intake processes upon a child's arrival, including paperwork completion and an overview of program services and rules.

o Provide essential items to children, such as clothing, hygiene products, and meals when necessary.

o Assist in planning and coordinating special educational events, cultural activities, holiday celebrations, recreational outings, and school transportation.

o Support children with legal, medical, and dental appointments.

o Aid in child reunifications.

o Administer over-the-counter and prescribed medications as needed.

Safety:
o Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free environment by ensuring common areas, restrooms, kitchens, laundry, and outdoor spaces are tidy.

o Report maintenance and supply needs promptly.

o Assist in evacuating children during emergencies, such as severe weather or natural disasters.

o Document children's progress, behavior, and health while in care.

o Observe, report, and document significant behavior patterns and necessary information for records, including progress notes and incident reports.

Training and Compliance:
o Help train new hires on their responsibilities within VQ.

o Participate in departmental and mandatory training sessions.

o Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety protocols.

  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in child welfare or social services working with children and/or adolescents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Clear tuberculosis test results.
  • Pass a drug test.
  • Proof of required vaccinations.
  • Clear background checks from relevant entities.

  • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility to drive for program services.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds infrequently.

  • Tasks may involve standing or walking 50% of the time; sitting 50% of the time.
  • May require bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping as necessary.
  • Must be able to provide First Aid and CPR.
  • Must be able to perform physical holds as instructed in CPI training.

The pay range for this role is:

USD per hour.
