Position eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus

The Youth Care Worker (YCW) is responsible for providing direct supervision and care for children placed in a VQ Inc residential environment. This

role is crucial in creating a secure atmosphere that promotes learning and behavioral management in a supportive manner, in alignment with VQ Inc, local, state, and federal guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Child Supervision and Interaction:
o Ensure constant supervision of children in care, maintaining visual contact at all times.

o Oversee activities during recreation, mealtime, leisure, and play.

o Build positive relationships with youth, serving as a role model to foster a safe and nurturing environment through a trauma-informed approach.

o Instruct, mentor, and assist children in daily living activities, including morning and bedtime routines, hygiene, cleanliness, housekeeping, meals, sports, academics, and extracurricular activities both on-site and off-site.

o Engage with children through games and recreational activities.

o Conduct orientation, intake, and inventory of personal belongings upon the child's arrival, including completing necessary paperwork and providing an overview of program services and rules.

o Meet essential needs of children, such as clothing, hygiene products, and meal preparation when necessary.

o Assist in planning and coordinating special educational events, cultural activities, holiday celebrations, recreational outings, and school transportation.

o Support children with legal, medical, and dental appointments.

o Aid in child reunifications.

o Administer over-the-counter and prescribed medications as needed.

Safety and Maintenance:
o Ensure a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment by maintaining cleanliness in common areas, restrooms, kitchen, laundry, and outdoor spaces.

o Report all maintenance and supply needs promptly.

o Assist in evacuating children during emergencies such as severe weather, natural disasters, or other unforeseen events.

o Document the child's progress, behavior, and health status while in care.

o Observe, report, and document behavioral patterns and necessary information that require record-keeping, including progress notes, observation logs, incident reports, and transfers.

Training and Compliance:
o Assist in training new hires regarding their responsibilities within VQ Inc.

o Participate in departmental, mandatory, and relevant training opportunities.

o Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety protocols.

  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of children served.
  • Capacity to handle and maintain confidential information.

  • Exhibit and maintain emotional intelligence for effective self-care and as a role model for the youth care worker team.

  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and colleagues to achieve organizational goals.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the child welfare sector, working with children and/or adolescents in a social service environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support program services.
  • Cleared tuberculosis test results.
  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Must provide proof of required vaccinations.
  • Cleared background checks from relevant entities, including Child Abuse and Neglect and FBI criminal background checks.

  • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive as required for program services.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds infrequently.

  • Tasks may involve standing or walking 50% of the day; sitting 50% of the day.
  • May require bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping as necessary.
  • Must be capable of providing First Aid and CPR.
  • Must be able to perform physical holds as instructed in Crisis Prevention Intervention training (CPI).

The pay range for this role is:

USD per hour.
