Position Title: Youth Prevention Advocate

Classification: Non Exempt (40 hours per week)

Reports to: Director of Youth Programs

Overview: The Youth Prevention Advocate plays a vital role in implementing and managing youth-focused prevention initiatives funded through state health grants. This position operates under the guidance of the Youth Programs Director and collaborates closely with the Prevention Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver program services to youth and the community across multiple counties.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of assigned evidence-based programs.
  • Implement assigned curricula with fidelity tailored to specific participant demographics.
  • Facilitate positive alternative activities related to Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) for both youth and adults.
  • Design promotional materials such as flyers and brochures to raise awareness of youth programs.
  • Develop engaging activities and presentations that comply with state health requirements.
  • Participate in community events, school functions, and health fairs to advocate for prevention initiatives.
  • Assist in organizing and executing community events related to prevention.
  • Contribute to achieving quarterly and annual performance goals set by state health services.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational protocols and guidelines.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with local schools, service providers, and community stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Prevention Coordinator and Director.
  • Attend meetings for agency, department, and program staff.
  • Support efforts to secure matching funds for programs.
  • Familiarize oneself with organizational programs and services for community outreach.
  • Understand and apply strategies to support prevention programs effectively.
  • Deliver presentations addressing key state priorities regarding substance use.
  • Contribute content for social media outreach.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Communication, or a related field is preferred. Certification as a Prevention Specialist is required within a specified timeframe.
  • Must possess reliable transportation and a valid driver's license, with personal vehicle use expected.
  • At least one year of relevant experience or a strong understanding of high-risk community dynamics is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.

Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with community resources and agencies.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with community partners throughout service delivery.

Physical Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Work environments may vary, including offices, public venues, and community settings.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and setting up equipment for events.
  • May encounter various environmental conditions during community outreach.
