The Youth Care Worker (YCW) is responsible for delivering direct care and supervision to children residing in a VQ Inc facility. This
role is pivotal in creating a secure environment that promotes learning and behavioral development in a supportive manner, in line with VQ Inc's policies and applicable local and federal regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Child Supervision and Interaction:
o Ensure constant supervision of children in care, maintaining visibility at all times.
o Oversee activities during recreation, meals, and leisure periods.
o Build positive relationships with youth, serving as a role model to foster a safe and nurturing environment through a trauma-informed approach.
o Instruct, mentor, and assist children in daily living activities, including morning and bedtime routines, hygiene, housekeeping, meals, sports, academics, and extracurricular activities both on-site and off-site.
o Engage with children through games and recreational activities.
o Conduct orientation and intake processes upon a child's arrival, including paperwork completion and an overview of program services and rules.
o Provide essential items to children, such as clothing and hygiene products, and assist with meal preparation when necessary.
o Help plan and coordinate special educational events, cultural activities, holiday celebrations, recreational outings, and school transportation.
o Support children with legal, medical, and dental appointments.
o Assist in child reunifications.
o Administer over-the-counter and prescribed medications as needed.
Safety and Compliance:
o Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment by ensuring cleanliness in common areas, restrooms, kitchen, laundry, and outdoor spaces.
o Report maintenance and supply needs promptly.
o Assist in evacuating children during emergencies, such as severe weather or other unforeseen events.
o Document children's progress, behavior, and health while in care.
o Observe, report, and record significant behavior patterns and necessary information for documentation, including progress notes and incident reports.
Training and Development:
o Assist in training new staff regarding their responsibilities within VQ Inc.
o Participate in mandatory and optional training sessions.
o Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety protocols.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of children served.

- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

- Ability to follow established policies and procedures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in child welfare or a related social service setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Clear tuberculosis test results.
- Ability to pass a drug test.
- Proof of required vaccinations.
- Clear background checks from relevant agencies.
- Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
- Valid driver's license required for transportation needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds infrequently.
- Tasks may involve standing or walking for 50% of the day and sitting for the remaining 50%.
- May require bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping as necessary.
- Must be capable of providing First Aid and CPR.
- Must be able to perform physical holds as per Crisis Prevention Intervention training.
The compensation for this position is competitive.
