Position Responsibilities:
The primary duty of the Chief Technology Operations Officer is to manage IT teams that support network server infrastructures, client hardware and software, account management, and database administration, ensuring alignment with the organization's business objectives. The main goals include developing methodologies for efficient infrastructure management that supports the various business units and achieving service level agreements for users throughout the organization.
The Chief Technology Operations Officer will plan, design, and oversee all operational activities within the IT department, providing direction and support for IT solutions that enhance critical business functions. This role requires close collaboration with decision-makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions across the organization.
Strategic Planning & Management:
- Work alongside executive leadership to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for acquiring and enabling efficient and cost-effective information processing and communication technologies.
- Oversee operational and strategic planning for the IT department, including business requirements, project planning, and resource allocation.
- Advise business and IT leaders on investment decisions that balance current operational demands with the long-term strategic vision of the organization.
- Provide guidance on technology roadmaps, principles, standards, and best practices.
- Re-engineer infrastructure support as necessary to align with business processes and strategic vision.
- Define and communicate project milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to the executive team and department leads.
- Develop and review budgets for IT divisions, ensuring compliance with organizational goals and objectives.
- Assess IT system performance to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade needs.
- Benchmark, analyze, and report on IT infrastructure, making recommendations for improvements.
- Develop bid requirements for hardware and software upgrades, ensuring compliance with stated needs.
- Authorize and oversee the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and support of all IT hardware and software.
- Prepare business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT initiatives.
- Direct research on potential technology solutions to support new initiatives and procurement efforts.
- Oversee end-user services, including help desk and technical support.
- Establish and implement IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, and service provision.
- Manage vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
- Supervise IT staffing, including recruitment, development, and performance evaluation.
- Maintain regular communication with senior leaders and department heads regarding IT activities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 13 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, or 11 years with a master's degree, or 9 years with a PhD in computer science, information systems, or business administration with a technology focus.
- Proven experience in managing IT operations and strategic planning.
- Strong understanding of current network and client operating systems, hardware, and standards.
- Experience in systems design and development from requirements analysis to management.
- Demonstrated ability to apply IT solutions to business challenges.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present ideas in a user-friendly manner.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented with a collaborative mindset.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Will oversee IT Managers.
