The organization aims to significantly bolster the protection of reproductive rights by 2030, having a proven track record of influencing judicial systems, governmental bodies, and human rights organizations on critical issues such as maternal health and abortion access. The Press Officer will play a vital role in collaborating with media outlets to shape narratives and enhance public dialogue surrounding reproductive rights.
Position Responsibilities: The Press Officer will report directly to the Associate Director of U.S. Media Relations and will work in close partnership with legal experts and program staff. Key responsibilities include:
- Formulating and implementing public relations strategies for ongoing legal cases and policy initiatives.
- Translating complex legal concepts into engaging narratives for media and public consumption.
- Establishing and nurturing relationships with journalists covering reproductive rights issues.
- Crafting press releases, public statements, and opinion pieces.
- Monitoring media trends and devising outreach strategies accordingly.
- Preparing spokespeople for various media interactions.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to achieve common objectives.
- Managing media contacts and maintaining an updated database.
- Executing special projects as required.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in media relations or journalism.
- A Bachelor's Degree is mandatory.
- A demonstrated history of successful communications strategies.
- Extensive experience in media and press strategy.
- Background in advocacy or legal fields is preferred.
- Exceptional writing and communication abilities.
- Familiarity with PR tools such as Cision is advantageous.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
