We're seeking a seasoned professional to lead our Cybersecurity Communications efforts. This person will be responsible for managing communications for cybersecurity policy, threat intelligence, influence operations intelligence, and large portions of our work to protect the world from cyber threats. You'll tell stories about what nation-states are doing to attack their targets and influence the domestic and global landscape, and what we're doing about it. You'll work closely with teams focused on monitoring, analyzing, and disrupting threats as well as those shaping smart policies.
As a member of the Public Affairs Team, you'll collaborate with colleagues focused on marketing, digital media, campaign management, and global government affairs, as well as communications colleagues around the company focused on products and on the ground in locations around the world.
The ideal candidate will be a world-class communicator with strength and direct experience in media relations at the highest level and the other tools in modern communications including messaging, social media, broadcast communication, content development, and events. You'll have a deep understanding of the geopolitical landscape and the domestic political landscape in key markets around the world. You'll know how to manage a crisis and provide communications counsel for senior executives.
The role is preferably based in New York, NY, Washington DC, or Redmond, WA.
Responsibilities
- Participate in business strategy planning and executive counsel
- Monitor and respond to the geopolitical, threat intelligence, political, and influence operations environments
- Guide teams to monitor, track, and analyze the impact of our work and messaging for a given issue
- Oversee developing and execution of stories in fresh ways that generate positive perceptions towards Microsoft
- Manage an internal team through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring
- Lead and direct agency teams, managing decisions in making in determining agency partnership needs and empowering agency teams for success
- Embody Microsoft's values and operate with the utmost integrity
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 6+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience OR equivalent experience
- 1+ year(s) people management experience
- 6+ years of experience in communications for policy or corporate communications
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to manage complex issues in an incredibly fast-changing environment
- Direct and significant experience working with reporters proactively and reactively
- Ability to provide strategic communications counsel to executives
- Understanding of evolving communications trends like social and digital media
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and across complex cross-group organizations
- Proven track record for new and innovative storytelling with ability to take risks
- Experience in navigating communications on cybersecurity, influence, or public policy topics
- Deep understanding of geopolitics globally and domestic politics in large markets
