About the Department:The Office of General Counsel is dedicated to providing comprehensive legal services, ensuring a collegial and professional environment. This office offers legal guidance on a variety of issues to senior university officials and faculty, addressing matters such as employment, student affairs, and civil rights.
Key Responsibilities:This role encompasses a wide range of duties, reflecting the diverse needs of the office and the dynamic university setting. Responsibilities include traditional paralegal tasks as well as innovative and technical projects. The ideal candidate will thrive in both areas.
Traditional Duties Include:
- Coordinating litigation processes, including discovery and legal documentation.
- Drafting and finalizing legal correspondence and reports.
- Managing document production and organization.
- Conducting legal research and assisting with administrative complaints.
- Performing preliminary reviews of contracts and agreements.
- Issuing litigation holds and tracking bankruptcy actions.
- Assisting with public records requests and compliance documentation.
- Maintaining case files and providing reports as needed.
Creative and Technical Duties Include:
- Creating educational materials for training sessions.
- Designing and maintaining online resources for the university community.
- Engaging in various projects as assigned.
Other Responsibilities:
- Drafting and finalizing various legal documents.
- Supporting compliance committees and initiatives.
- Performing additional tasks as directed by supervisors.
Completion of an accredited paralegal program or equivalent experience.
Required Skills:- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Experience in graphic design or document management systems.
- Knowledge of bankruptcy procedures and court rules.
- Paralegal certification from recognized institutions.
- Paralegal certification is required.
