Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Masters Swim Coach is tasked with overseeing the daily functions of the Masters swim program, reporting directly to the Recreation Coordinator for Aquatics. This role necessitates the coordination and supervision of assistant coaches, daily training sessions, team travel for competitions, and various related activities. The coach will also focus on expanding the Aquatics Program and enhancing member retention.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are essential to this position:

  • Support the Coordinator in registering swimmers with the governing body.
  • Assist in the recruitment and management of assistant coaching staff.
  • Participate in regular meetings with aquatic facility personnel.
  • Help coordinate travel logistics for the program.
  • Act as the primary contact for the governing body and attend relevant meetings as required.
  • Maintain current information on the program's online presence.
  • Assist in organizing sanctioned swim meets and fitness events.
  • Conduct swim clinics and educational sessions for members.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator to identify and cultivate sponsorship opportunities.
  • Engage the Masters program in community service initiatives.
  • Establish a support network of members and volunteers.
  • Set strategic goals for the program.
  • Contribute to the development of youth and adult swimming programs.
  • Create a seasonal training plan.
  • Assist each swimmer in establishing personal goals.
  • Design training sessions in partnership with the Coordinator and coaching staff.
  • Lead training sessions.
  • Post training schedules on the designated platform.
  • Assist in the scheduling of assistant coaches.
  • Offer specialized clinics focused on stroke improvement.
  • Travel to competitive events.
  • Participate in ongoing education for swimming coaches.
  • Respond promptly to member inquiries and feedback.
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor on program planning, budgeting, and marketing.
  • Provide regular updates to the staff.
  • Set up and dismantle training equipment as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Understanding of effective swimming techniques and objectives.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and policies.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to ensure the health and safety of participants.
  • Capability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff and participants.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated swimming and safety skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 21 years old.

Minimum of three years of professional coaching experience in Masters, high school, club, or collegiate swimming.

Experience in competitive or fitness swimming.

Extensive knowledge of swimming techniques and training methodologies.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
