Job Overview

SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Masters Swim Coach and the Recreation Coordinator, the Assistant Coach plays a vital role in managing daily program operations and administrative tasks while delivering exceptional coaching services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are essential to this role:

  • Assist and provide information to new participants
  • Inform about team tryouts, clinics, and practice schedules
  • Coach adult swimmers effectively
  • Support the coaching staff in developing a comprehensive swimming program for both youth and adults
  • Collaborate with the Coach to design and implement structured workouts for the team
  • Encourage team growth and foster a positive environment
  • Participate in all scheduled competitions, events, and activities
  • Attend team and coaching meetings
  • Instruct and correct swimmers during training
  • Promote participation in open water, pool, and triathlon events
  • Assist with managing registration fees for athletes and programs
  • Communicate updates regarding practice and competition schedules to athletes
  • Set up and dismantle equipment for training sessions
  • Perform other related coaching duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS: To excel in this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Understanding of effective swimming techniques and objectives
  • Familiarity with relevant rules and regulations
  • High-level customer service principles
  • Social media engagement
  • Swimming training methods
  • Standard safety practices

SKILLS:

  • Ability to ensure the health and safety of participants
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and participants
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate swimming and safety techniques
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 18 years old as per US Masters Swimming requirements.

Background in competitive coaching and swimming is preferred.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and understand simple instructions and correspondence. Capable of writing basic correspondence and presenting information effectively in small group settings.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions in various formats and address problems with multiple variables.

CERTIFICATIONS:

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, including First Aid/CPR/AED (to be obtained within 90 days of hire).

OTHER SKILLS:

Strong swimming abilities are essential.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements for this role include:

Work primarily conducted in a swimming pool environment, necessitating stamina for extended periods and the ability to lift moderate to heavy weights.

Mobility to stand, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push, pull equipment, and swim is essential. Vision and hearing must be adequate to monitor activities in a busy environment.

Must be capable of swimming distances and diving to specified depths, as required by certification standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment involves:

Regular outdoor work in a pool setting with wet and slippery conditions. Exposure to varying weather and chemicals used in aquatic facilities.

The noise level is typically moderate.
