Position Overview

Job Summary:

This role is pivotal in orchestrating and overseeing a diverse range of recreational initiatives aimed at individuals of all ages, particularly focusing on those with disabilities and promoting inclusive participation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs, promotes, instructs, modifies, and facilitates a wide array of recreational programs, including arts and crafts, sports, music, dance, drama, nature exploration, and community events.
  • Assists in the planning, promotion, and execution of tournaments, performances, social gatherings, exhibitions, festivals, and other special occasions.
  • Oversees a designated area within the facility, such as the gymnasium, athletic fields, game rooms, or craft areas.
  • Provides transportation for participants using county vehicles for group outings.
  • Coordinates and aids in the execution of organizational and county-wide events.
  • Develops a variety of activities tailored to different age groups with disabilities and varying skill levels.

Additional Responsibilities:

Employees in this role may be required to undertake any related tasks as directed by appropriate authorities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fundamental understanding of disabilities, adaptation strategies, and behavior management techniques.
  • Familiarity with principles, techniques, methods, materials, and equipment relevant to recreational and social programs for individuals with disabilities.
  • Proficient in public relations practices and principles, with exceptional communication and organizational abilities.
  • Capable of leading group activities and games.
  • Effective communication skills with children, adults, parents, and colleagues, along with the ability to maintain records and generate reports.
  • Adept at supervising and mentoring staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to articulate ideas and suggestions clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in planning engaging and suitable activities for all age groups.
  • Competent in ensuring a safe environment for all participants.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, parents, and children.
  • Physical capability to walk or utilize assistive devices and lift heavy items, including sports equipment.

Working Conditions:

This position typically involves both indoor and outdoor work environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of relevant experience, including some background working with children and adults with disabilities across various age groups.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license or state identification card.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.
