Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Financial Aid Assistant to join our team at Kern Community College District. The successful candidate will provide exceptional support to students applying for financial aid, perform a variety of general clerical duties, and maintain accurate records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance and information to students applying for financial aid, including answering questions and interpreting rules and regulations.
  • Assist students in completing financial aid applications and verification forms, review documentation, and determine applicant status.
  • Perform a variety of general clerical duties, including composing routine correspondence, maintaining filing systems, and typing and processing various lists, forms, and cards.
  • Compile and maintain statistical information related to financial aid, prepare statistical reports as required, and produce and mail verification forms and notices to students.
  • Communicate with the public, other departments, and outside agencies to exchange information, refer to appropriate financial aid staff, and provide information on the availability of grants, loans, and scholarships.
  • Provide work direction and guidance to student workers and attend various workshops and training seminars as assigned.
Requirements
  • Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years of general clerical experience.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, telephone techniques and etiquette, statistical record-keeping techniques, operation of a computer, specified software, and data entry techniques.
  • Ability to learn the financial aid application procedure, maintain accurate and complete files and records, learn and explain the scholarships, grants, loans, and awards available through the college, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, faculty, and staff. The ability to work confidentially with discretion and meet schedules and time lines is essential.
