Role Summary:

We are in search of a Principal Software Engineer to become part of our diverse team responsible for crafting next-generation multi-spectral imaging systems, encompassing infrared, low-light, and visible light technologies. Ideal candidates should be self-driven, capable of working autonomously as well as in collaboration with others on intricate systems within a fast-paced and dynamic setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and architect real-time, embedded software systems utilizing asymmetric multiprocessing techniques in a multithreaded context. Familiarity with commercial real-time operating systems (such as Linux, VxWorks, FreeRTOS, etc.) is essential. Develop and implement sophisticated image processing algorithms. Create and execute real-time multi-processor communication strategies. Design and implement low-level hardware interfacing software to ensure optimal integration of imaging sensors. Foster a collaborative team environment, building relationships and engaging in cross-disciplinary coalitions to promote knowledge sharing across teams and projects. Collaborate with FPGA, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineers throughout all stages of software design, development, and testing. Implement complex serial and packetized protocols over Ethernet, MS1553, ARINC, CAN, and/or serial connections, including TCP/IP, RTP, NMEA, ISA, or JSON. Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new team members. Exhibit the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure cohesive efforts.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is required. Over 15 years of relevant software engineering experience demonstrating the capability to design and implement complex software subsystems is preferred. This experience should encompass all phases of the software development lifecycle from product inception through design, implementation, and support. Proficiency in C/C++ programming is required, along with familiarity with object-oriented design principles. Knowledge of software development, configuration management, and defect tracking tools is assumed. Experience with version control systems such as Perforce, GIT, or similar tools. Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build relationships and influence diverse personality types. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to cultivate a cooperative environment. A strong team player with outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and deliver unified efforts.

Preferred Experience:

Experience with Linux kernel drivers and interfacing with custom hardware. Familiarity with automated build tools. Knowledge of SQL or other database systems. Experience with the Qt Application Framework, particularly using QML. Understanding of real-time video streaming, including hardware-accelerated compression, transport, MISB metadata management, multicast, and quality of service management. Implementation of convolutional neural networks for object detection, recognition, and identification in video or image processing, especially in real-time contexts. Demonstrated experience in a technical team leadership role is a plus.
