Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Optical Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic Service and Operations team. This role is critical in overseeing the production of optical components and systems, ensuring that our manufacturing processes are efficient, high-quality, and scalable.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process Enhancement: Identify and implement improvements in manufacturing processes for optical components, emphasizing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaboration with R&D: Work alongside research and development teams to transition optical designs into manufacturable products, offering insights on design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA).
  • Quality Control: Establish and uphold stringent quality assurance measures throughout the manufacturing process, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Supplier Engagement: Collaborate with suppliers to procure materials and components, assess vendor capabilities, and foster continuous improvement in supplier performance.
  • Production Management: Develop and manage production schedules, capacity plans, and resource allocation strategies to meet customer demands while optimizing inventory and lead times.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to manufacturing processes, including work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with engineering, operations, and quality teams to address manufacturing challenges, implement corrective actions, and enhance product quality.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior engineers and technicians, promoting a culture of learning and professional development within the manufacturing team.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead efforts to identify and execute process enhancements, utilizing methodologies such as lean manufacturing and Six Sigma.
  • Risk Mitigation: Recognize potential risks to manufacturing operations and devise strategies to ensure production continuity and minimize disruptions.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in optical manufacturing or a related field, focusing on process engineering and production optimization. A strong understanding of optical principles, including lens design and coating processes, is essential. Proficiency in CAD software and optical design tools is required, along with familiarity with quality management systems and regulatory standards for medical devices. A proven track record of driving continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable. Certification in lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is an advantage.
