Sustainability Consultant

Each and every role throughout our organization makes a difference in our ability to change the world for the better. In the role of Environmental Planning Specialist, we'll count on you to:
- Collect project-related data, which may include research, communicating with government agencies and clients, map reviews, and land use code interpretation.
- Under direction and instruction from project managers, assist in preparation and review of technical studies, permit applications, and similar reports/documents for local, Washington state, and Federal permitting efforts.
- Contribute as an author on environmental planning documents such as State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Environmental Impact Statements and Checklists and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments and Categorical Exclusions.
- Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- 2 to 5 years of related experience.
- Advanced degree is preferred.
- Local candidates preferred.
- Experience with GIS software.
- Demonstrated familiarity with foundational elements of planning especially related to Federal and/or Washington state/local regulations.
- Basic understanding of local, state, and federal government programs and processes.
- Knowledge of the environmental impact of planning decisions on communities.
- Familiarity with the legal foundation for land use regulation.
- Valid Washington State Driver's license (occasional travel may be needed for project visits or in-person meetings).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Resources, or Planning.
- Experienced in MS Office Suite.
- Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and research abilities.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
