Emergency Care Technician

Overview:

The Emergency Department Technician plays a vital role in the healthcare team, utilizing skills across various functions such as Patient Registration, Unit Coordination, and Monitoring. This position involves executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care in line with established protocols and competencies. The technician is responsible for ensuring a safe, organized, and well-stocked environment for patient care.

Key Responsibilities:


• Upholds the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies, demonstrating leadership qualities in self-management and teamwork.

• Aids in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.

• Observes and assesses patient conditions, identifying changes and communicating findings to the nursing staff.

• Assists in transporting stable patients to various departments as necessary.

• Responsible for cleaning, managing, and returning medical equipment and supplies.

• Supports inventory management by assisting with the ordering and stocking of essential items.

• Maintains proficiency in performing specialized procedures, including venipuncture, splinting, and nonsterile dressing changes.

• Prepares for emergency procedures and provides assistance to registered nurses as required.

• Operates patient monitoring devices and records vital data, including EKGs and laboratory results, under RN supervision.

• Conducts phlebotomy and collects laboratory specimens, following RN directives.

• Demonstrates the ability to adapt patient care methods to meet the diverse needs of the patient population served.

• Performs clerical duties on nursing units, including reception tasks, order transcription, and record maintenance.

• As a Patient Registrar, warmly welcomes patients, ensuring a professional and courteous environment while collecting necessary demographic and insurance information.

• Adheres to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.

• Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care setting or a valid EMT license may substitute for experience.
  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
  • ACLS certification required within six months of employment.
  • PALS certification required within six months of employment.
  • EMT Basic or Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
