Emergency Care Technician

Overview:
The Emergency Department Technician possesses a diverse skill set encompassing various roles such as ED Technician, Patient Registrar, Unit Clerk, and Monitor Technician. This position involves executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, contributing to patient care in alignment with established training and competencies. The technician is expected to adhere to all hospital protocols while supporting the nursing team in maintaining a safe, organized, and well-equipped patient environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Fulfill the expectations outlined in the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.
• In accordance with training, monitor patient conditions, identify changes in status, and communicate findings to the registered nurse.
• Safely escort stable patients to various departments as necessary.
• Clean, procure, and return medical equipment and supplies.
• Aid in the ordering and management of stock items.
• Maintain proficiency in specialized procedures such as venipuncture, splinting, staple and suture removal, nonsterile dressing changes, peak expiration flow rate, pulse oximetry, and crutch training.
• Set up for Emergency Department procedures and assist the registered nurse as directed.
• Operate patient monitoring equipment, record rhythm strips, conduct 12 lead EKGs, and perform biomarker and glucometer readings as delegated by the registered nurse.
• Perform phlebotomy, collect laboratory specimens as required, and insert saline locks under the supervision of the registered nurse.
• Demonstrate competence in performing assigned patient care duties in a manner that addresses the specific and developmental needs of the patient population served by the department.
• Adapt patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and age-specific needs of each patient.
• Under the guidance of the registered nurse, undertake clerical and non-nursing tasks on the nursing units, including serving as a unit receptionist, transcribing orders, and assisting with the maintenance of patient and hospital records.
• As a Patient Registrar, warmly greet all patients upon arrival, ensuring a professional and courteous atmosphere; demonstrate knowledge of customer service principles and departmental expectations. Address patient concerns and ensure comfort while waiting for registration or consultation. Accurately document all necessary demographic, insurance, and financial information in the computer system.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care hospital or military medical setting, or an active EMT license in lieu of experience is required.
- Current BLS certification is mandatory.
- ACLS certification is required within six months of hire.
- PALS certification is required within six months of hire.
- EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
