Position Overview:

The Art Gallery Security Officer serves as a vital security presence, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for visitors while safeguarding the museum's valuable collections and facilities. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to remain vigilant for extended periods, and sharp observational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safeguard the museum's artworks by conducting regular patrols of designated areas during operational hours.
  • Prevent unauthorized individuals from touching, handling, or damaging artworks and museum property.
  • Implement museum policies to uphold the safety and security of staff, visitors, and art collections.
  • Manage the intake of packages and parcels according to established security protocols.
  • Assist in emergency evacuations and protect art collections during critical situations.
  • Monitor and promptly report any safety violations, critical incidents, or suspicious activities.
  • Engage with visitors by providing helpful information and directions in a courteous manner.
  • Perform light cleaning duties to maintain a welcoming environment for guests.
  • Maintain communication with colleagues and supervisors via radio throughout the shift.
  • Support the museum's mission in all aspects of the role.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Effective communication skills in English, with attention to detail and strong literacy, writing, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience in public-facing roles is preferred.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and stay alert for long durations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with staff and visitors.
  • Understanding and adherence to standard operating procedures, maintaining professionalism in conduct and appearance.
  • Capability to make sound independent judgments within established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work autonomously and responsibly without direct supervision.
  • Previous security or law enforcement experience is desirable.
  • Familiarity with security operations and safety practices in a museum context is preferred.
