Clinical Nurse for Patient Observation Unit

Position Summary
The Clinical Staff Nurse plays a vital role in delivering exceptional nursing care and managing patient services. Reporting to the Clinical Unit Supervisor, this role involves 12-hour accountability for the organization, planning, and execution of high-quality, individualized care that is centered around patients and their families. This position is grounded in the Watson Model of Care, ensuring that the unique needs of each patient, including age and population-specific considerations, are met with the utmost professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process as a systematic approach to address patient and family needs effectively.
- Conduct targeted nursing assessments, recognizing subtle clinical changes and adjusting care plans accordingly.
- Apply knowledge and skills tailored to the age and specific needs of patients within the assigned unit.
- Engage in the Hospital's Patient Satisfaction initiatives through positive interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients throughout their healthcare journey, respecting their rights and dignity.
- Communicate effectively using the SBAR method during all hand-off situations.
- Document patient care comprehensively, including assessments, interdisciplinary plans, and evaluations, in accordance with hospital policies.
- Anticipate factors affecting patient comfort and adapt interventions to enhance recovery experiences.
- Commit to addressing the educational needs of patients and families, utilizing appropriate resources to promote positive outcomes.
- Collaborate with Care Managers to facilitate interdisciplinary discharge planning for patients.
- Review and communicate changes in patient conditions to physicians and team members promptly.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and document outcomes accordingly.
- Supervise and mentor ancillary nursing personnel, ensuring evaluations are conducted regularly.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code standards.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment that meets regulatory standards.
- Participate in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives specific to the unit.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A. Education
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
B. Experience
- At least one year of clinical nursing experience in relevant settings such as Definitive Observation Units, Emergency Departments, or Progressive Care Units.
- Current California Nursing License required.
C. Skills and Knowledge
- Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish).
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Completion of Managing Aggressive Behavior (MAB) training within 90 days of hire.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred.
