The Salvation Army, a globally recognized non-profit organization rooted in faith, is seeking a dedicated Culinary Operations Supervisor for its Center of Hope and shelter in Savannah, GA. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the kitchen, which includes menu planning, inventory management, procurement of supplies, cost oversight, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The role requires flexibility to work on both weekdays and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare budget estimates for food and supplies, establish work schedules, manage orders, and ensure efficient and profitable kitchen operations.
  • Lead and supervise all kitchen personnel and volunteers.
  • Create standard operating procedures for kitchen equipment and roles, and develop action plans to achieve food service objectives.
  • Maintain quality control in the ordering, receiving, and storage of inventory, as well as in kitchen and dining areas.
  • Oversee supplemental food and beverage services for events and ensure timely delivery of catered meals.
  • Develop menus and implement cost recovery strategies for products and services.
  • Research new culinary products and trends to enhance guest experiences.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety standards as per local regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Center of Hope Director on menu planning for catered events.
  • Adhere to budgetary guidelines by conducting weekly inventories, monitoring labor costs, approving supplier invoices, minimizing waste, and maintaining sales reports.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of all food and beverage facilities.
  • Inspect to confirm adherence to safety, sanitation, energy management, and preventive maintenance protocols.
  • Plan and coordinate upcoming events such as luncheons and banquets.
  • Oversee all food preparation and cooking activities within the facility.
  • Ensure guest safety by addressing any unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Provide quality nutritional services daily.
  • Follow and enforce The Salvation Army's policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean kitchen environment.
  • Ensure timely and safe delivery of all product orders.
  • Guarantee proper food storage practices.
  • Respond to customer feedback regarding food quality and service.
  • Foster strong relationships with cooks, volunteers, and clients to create a positive experience.
  • Manage hiring, training, and supervision of staff and volunteers, including mentoring program beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate kitchen personnel activities and meal preparation.
  • Engage with community partners to raise awareness of The Salvation Army's programs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts or a related field, with a minimum of four years of management experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of training and experience that demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities are acceptable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Completion of Safe from Harm, Serve Safe, First Aid, and CPR training is necessary.
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department and The Salvation Army.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, meet attendance requirements, and communicate effectively in English. Duties involve frequent walking, standing, kneeling, or squatting, with occasional sitting. Work is conducted in a typical kitchen environment, which may involve exposure to hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers.
