Position Summary: The role involves training dogs as part of New York Dogworks Inc's group classes, private sessions, and enrichment services. Our operations run year-round, and employees should be prepared to work during weekends and evenings, regardless of weather conditions. The position requires approximately 50% of time spent actively engaging in group classes or individual training, 20% on administrative tasks such as managing enrollments, scheduling, processing payments, and reporting, another 20% on maintaining cleanliness of training areas and equipment, and 10% interacting with dog owners to promote additional services and products.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Train dogs and enhance their lives using the latest evidence-based methods to fulfill our mission of Whole Dog Care and Enrichment.
  • Stay informed on dog behavior and training through continuous education.
  • Utilize positive reinforcement and reward-based training techniques exclusively; aversive methods are strictly prohibited.
  • Conduct training sessions for both individual dogs and groups.
  • Responsibilities may include teaching various commands and behaviors, enhancing group play skills for safety, engaging in enrichment activities, and providing basic care such as grooming, feeding, and administering first aid.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment for both dogs and clients, which includes regular cleaning tasks.
  • Document and manage information related to dogs and clients, including enrollments, payments, and training progress reports.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality experiences for dogs and their owners.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction and support the efficient operation of the facility.
  • Adhere to company standards in service delivery and fulfill additional administrative duties as assigned.
  • Familiarize oneself with all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications: To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Education and Experience: Preferred candidates will possess certifications in dog training, such as CPDT or KPA, and have prior experience working with dogs in a professional environment. Attendance at training sessions and seminars may be required outside of regular working hours.

Physical Requirements: The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in varying outdoor conditions. Skills in grasping, pinching, and pulling are necessary for handling dogs safely.

Health Requirements: Employees must be current on Tetanus vaccinations.

Language and Computer Skills: Candidates should be able to read and comprehend dog-related information and communicate effectively with management. A basic understanding of Windows-based applications is beneficial.

Reasoning Skills: The ability to identify problems, analyze situations, and respond effectively is crucial, especially when managing behavioral challenges during training sessions. Understanding dog body language and recognizing signs of potential conflict is essential for ensuring safety.
