Department Overview

The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) at UCSF is at the forefront of integrating basic science with clinical practice to enhance care for individuals affected by neurodegenerative disorders. Established in 1999, the IND is dedicated to developing innovative therapies for conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other related diseases. Under the leadership of Nobel Laureate Stanley B. Prusiner, MD, the IND aims to uncover the causes and formulate treatments for these challenging illnesses.


Position Summary

The IND HR Coordinator plays a crucial role in managing administrative functions within the department. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including human resources operations and departmental administration. The coordinator will serve as the primary HR representative for the IND Animal Facility/Vivarium, engaging with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and staff in a dynamic environment of over 180 personnel.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee HR-related processes including visa applications, recruitment coordination, and candidate interviews.
  • Develop and manage job descriptions, appointment milestones, and ensure compliance with institutional policies.
  • Facilitate communication between candidates and department staff regarding HR inquiries and requests.
  • Utilize various UCSF systems for HR functions, including payroll and timekeeping.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive HR information with discretion.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a related HR role.
  • Experience working with temporary staffing agencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR management software.

Preferred:

  • Two years of experience in HR functions.
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of research-animal facility operations.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $53.50 per hour, with placement within the salary range dependent on experience and internal equity.
