About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Business Development Manager to join our team at Carl A. Nelson & Company. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive internal and external marketing plan to increase revenues through successful project completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prospect for project leads with owners, subcontractors, designers, employees, and data sources.
  • Manage responses to requests for proposals, including qualification statements.
  • Develop project selection criteria with management to direct sales efforts and qualify leads.
  • Make sales calls to develop and qualify project leads, determine decision-makers, and determine project delivery approaches.
  • Educate customers on our industry and delivery methods.
  • Develop and participate in sales presentations.
  • Manage the prospect list and follow up with responsible parties. Coordinate company-wide sales efforts.
  • Participate in project selection.
  • Manage historical project data.
  • Analyze project performance history, produce statistical data, and make recommendations for market segments to target for growth or reduction.
  • Scan the business environment for business opportunities.
  • Identify capabilities to improve client services or enter desirable market segments.
  • Research and understand the competitive environment of our markets, including competitors' capabilities, costs, and fee structures.
  • Participate in determining pricing strategy to maximize profits.
  • Manage advertising, including signage at job sites.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage information on the external company website.
  • Manage production of client newsletters on a semi-annual basis.
  • Prepare for and attend trade shows.
  • Maintain and manage client surveys and obtain other client feedback. Communicate to management and project participants. Recommend changes in company operations or capabilities to improve customer satisfaction and increase repeat and referred business.
  • Develop and organize company promotions and appreciation events.
  • Maintain and promote company culture with company personnel.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in construction, business, marketing, or a related field.
  • At least five years of related experience in the construction, engineering, or architectural industries.
  • At least five years of experience with project/program management.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • General knowledge of design software (Adobe Creative Suite).
  • General knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • General knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally or in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to analyze the company's strengths and weaknesses and develop successful marketing strategies.
  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team and foster a team environment where all members work toward a common end goal.
