Job Overview


Under the supervision of management and physician leadership, the Medical Assistant III is responsible for executing and overseeing clinical operations. This includes, but is not limited to, facilitating patient flow and enhancing the delivery of primary and preventive healthcare services. The role involves performing technical procedures, adhering to lab protocols, and engaging in clinically oriented tasks under the guidance of physicians or providers.

The Medical Assistant III will collaborate with management to enhance office efficiencies in alignment with established policies and procedures, ensuring optimal operations that prioritize support for physicians, clinic personnel, and management. This role embodies the 'Service First' philosophy, aimed at fostering customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

1. Serve as an assistant to the physician/provider, delivering primary healthcare and managing patient care.
2. Collaborate with clerical staff to streamline operations and improve patient flow.
3. Engage with external healthcare facilities and agencies concerning patient care and insurance matters.
4. Maintain updated competencies, demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with leadership and accreditation bodies regarding processes and workflows.
5. Perform front office duties to provide coverage as necessary.
6. Offer support in other departments or locations as required.
7. Exhibit exceptional customer service skills and uphold the model of patient and family-centered care.
8. Assume and be formally assigned at least two additional responsibilities as part of primary duties, dedicating 20% or more of time to:
- Identifying primary care gaps in care, outreach, and chart preparation
- Serving in a residency clinic role
- Conducting high-level disinfection
- Acting as a designated new hire preceptor
- Participating in or leading special programs/grants (e.g., CPC Plus, SIM, Vaccine for Child Program, process improvement initiatives)
- Engaging in care management (PDCMs)
- Functioning as a qualified language interpreter
- Serving as a Super User for EPIC or specific competencies
- Providing advanced provider support for complex procedures and/or infusion/chemo scheduling
- Working in a multi-site/flexible float pool assignment
Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
2. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, including a clinical rotation, or equivalent experience required.
3. A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, including twelve months of Medical Assistant work experience or a completed internship with six months of Medical Assistant work experience required.
4. Preferred: 2-3 years of Medical Assistant experience.
5. Certifications: CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA), CRT-Medical Assistant, Registered (RMA), CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (NCMA), CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (CCMA), or other relevant certifications required within 90 days of hire.
6. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
Work Environment
This position is full-time, with a day shift schedule. Weekly hours are 40, typically from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Corewell Health is dedicated to maintaining a safe environment for all team members, patients, visitors, and the community.
