Leidos is on the lookout for a Aerospace Engineer III to engage in human use research at the Naval Medical Research Unit in Dayton, OH. The ideal candidate will be involved in studies and analyses aimed at understanding the cognitive and physiological factors affecting military operations in aviation, space, and related fields, particularly concerning motion sickness (including sea-sickness, air-sickness, simulator-sickness, and space-sickness), aeromedical standards, altitude impacts, fatigue evaluation, aviation safety, acceleration effects, and neurocognitive/neurophysiological responses.

This role encompasses both laboratory and field research activities.

Your impactful contributions will include:

  • Designing, developing, and testing aerospace technologies and devices to support research initiatives.
  • Conducting naval aeromedical research and development utilizing advanced equipment and innovative technologies.
  • Researching and analyzing new materials or concepts to enhance understanding of unexplained phenomena.
  • Interpreting and developing methodologies in the absence of clear experimental data.
  • Defending and advocating for innovative concepts and proposals.
  • Executing tests and evaluations to support aeromedical research objectives, including flight simulations.
  • Collecting and analyzing technical data, performing statistical analyses, and integrating findings into comprehensive reports and presentations.
  • Assisting with subject screening and data collection as part of the research team.
  • Collaborating with military and civilian researchers to design and implement research devices.
  • Planning and modifying research experiments and procedures.
  • Engaging with external customers and researchers to present detailed project results.
  • Testing, evaluating, troubleshooting, and maintaining aerospace research equipment.
  • Documenting all work meticulously in laboratory notebooks and technical reports.
  • Performing routine maintenance and operation of critical human devices for research protocols.

What distinguishes you:

  • A Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in a related field.
  • Proven experience in the design, development, testing, and evaluation of aerospace technologies.
  • Experience in conducting human subject research.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET classification access level.
  • US citizenship is required due to Federal contract obligations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in military or medical research environments.
  • Familiarity with military aircraft operations and flight testing.
  • Relevant training or certification in Aviation Safety.
  • Human Systems Integration training and certification.
  • Military aircraft pilot training or experience as a flight test engineer.
