The director will also propose strategic solutions, recommend new software and systems, prepare financial budgets, and maintain relationships with external vendors and advisors, ensuring that all reported issues are resolved efficiently.
Strategic Planning
- Work alongside the Vice President of Information Management and Technology to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for efficient and cost-effective information processing and communication technologies.
- Oversee operational and strategic planning for the IT department, including business requirements, project management, and resource allocation.
- Assist business and IT leaders in making informed investment decisions that balance current operational demands with the organization's long-term strategic vision.
- Provide guidance on technology roadmaps, principles, standards, and best practices.
- Re-engineer infrastructure support as necessary to ensure alignment with business processes and strategic objectives.
- Define and communicate project milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to the executive team and department leads.
- Develop and review budgets for IT divisions, ensuring compliance with established goals and objectives.
- Evaluate IT system performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade needs.
- Conduct benchmarking and analysis to recommend improvements for IT infrastructure and systems.
- Establish bid requirements for hardware and software upgrades, review submissions for compliance, and make award decisions.
- Authorize and oversee the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and support of all IT hardware and software.
- Create business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT initiatives.
- Direct research on potential technology solutions to support new initiatives and procurement efforts.
- Ensure the provision of end-user services, including help desk and technical support.
- Develop and implement IT policies and procedures, including those related to architecture, security, disaster recovery, and service provision.
- Manage vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
- Oversee IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, and development.
- Maintain regular communication with senior leaders and department heads regarding relevant IT activities.
- A minimum of 13 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, or 11 years with a master's degree, or 9 years with a PhD in computer science, information systems, or business administration with a technology focus.
- At least 10 years of experience managing or directing IT operations.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, and policy development within IT.
- Strong technical knowledge of current network and client operating systems, hardware, and standards.
- Experience in systems design and development from requirements analysis to daily management.
- Demonstrated ability to apply IT solutions to business challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present ideas clearly.
