Key Responsibilities:- Assist in and reinforce student instruction, behavior, development of language skills, social skills, and resource skills of identified students.
- Perform a wide variety of routine clerical, technical, and instructionally related tasks.
- Assist with the development of student social skills, self-discipline, and survival techniques based on individual needs.
- Communicate effectively with students and/or adults.
- Establish rapport with students and maintain their collectivity and calmness in other than normal situations.
- Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
- Apply common sense and good judgment.
- Act responsibly in emergency situations to assist students.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Provide instructional support services under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher.
- Assist with classroom management, such as organizing instructional and other materials.
- Provide support in a library, media center, or computer laboratory.
- Assist in reinforcement of small group and/or individual instruction.
- Assist students with making mathematical computations that may require several processes.
- Assist students prior to, during, and immediately after district transportation.
- Under the supervision and direction of certificated staff, copy, assemble, and/or hand out instructional materials.
- Assist with administering and correcting tests under the direction of the teacher.
- Attend workshops and/or in-service training provided by the assigned department.
- Escort students to restrooms and provide assistance when necessary.
- Assist students on the playground.
- Assist students during activities which take place outside the classroom.
- Accompany the certificated teacher and/or administrator in student-related extracurricular activities.
- Witness the actions of students and provide input regarding their behavior to certificated personnel.
- Communicate to and work with the Child Study Teams.
- Provide assistance with multimedia equipment/programs.
- Provide minor clerical assistance to certificated personnel.
- Operate duplicating and other office equipment.
- Accept overnight assignments as directed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Minimum of either:
- Associate's Degree
- Sixty (60) semester hour college credits
- Passing grade on the ParaPro Praxis Test
- Must satisfy all minimum Highly Qualified Paraprofessional standards
- Must be physically able to assist students with motor skills and other tasks
- Prior experience working with children as a volunteer, instructional aide, or other paid employment is desirable
