Key Responsibilities

The Litigation Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the Litigation Unit with the management of litigated claims. Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing small claims cases or other assigned files.
  • Drafting reservation of rights and coverage position letters to support in-house legal counsel.
  • Reviewing correspondence and documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assisting in the preparation of pleadings and discovery materials.
  • Facilitating the investigation and documentation gathering for discovery purposes.
  • Coordinating responses to subpoenas as directed by legal counsel.
  • Managing scheduling and calendar duties for in-house attorneys, including liaising with external legal representatives.
  • Maintaining the Legal Department's Trial/ADR calendars and tracking important deadlines.
  • Supporting the Legal Department with research and documentation for internal initiatives.
  • Responding to inquiries from agents regarding claims and their statuses.
  • Ensuring compliance with Litigation Handling Guidelines set for outside counsel.
  • Providing administrative support in evaluating and negotiating settlements for property and casualty claims.
  • Processing expense payment requests and settlement checks while adhering to regulatory standards.
  • Assisting in drafting alerts for case resolutions.
  • Gathering documentation for audits or reinsurer requests.
  • Identifying process improvements to enhance service delivery and compliance.
  • Building positive relationships with business partners to achieve compliance and strategic goals.
  • Ensuring accurate documentation of Medicare fields prior to settlement check issuance.
  • Conducting thorough legal research as required for case management and training.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree with a paralegal studies certificate or a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Preferred experience in a corporate legal environment or law firm.
  • Familiarity with statutory application and tort law defense is advantageous.
  • Experience in property and casualty liability is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with legal and business teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license required.
