Our flagship project, Cosmic-1, is an advanced autonomous outdoor robot designed to navigate solar construction sites and install solar panels at unprecedented speeds, significantly contributing to the ambitious renewable energy targets set for the United States.
About the Role
We are in search of founding engineers to collaborate with a team of experienced professionals from leading aerospace and technology companies in revolutionizing the construction sector through cutting-edge robotics.
The ideal candidate will possess a proactive mindset, thrive in uncertain environments, and be equally comfortable in both office and field settings, with a passion for shaping the future of humanity.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of a subsystem of the Cosmic-1 robot, which may include:
- Drive-base (navigation, localization, mapping, planning, control)
- Manipulator (path planning, pose estimation, feedback control)
- Compute (prioritization, optimization, planning, UI/UX)
- Manage all aspects of the subsystem, including:
- Developing, deploying, and testing robotics software
- Defining the technical direction for the subsystem
- Collaborating with hardware engineers to create seamless integrated solutions
- Working closely with co-founders to establish milestones, manage resources, and plan product and technical roadmaps
- Travel to various sites for robot deployment
- Recruit and develop a high-caliber engineering team
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of professional engineering experience
- Strong grasp of robotics principles, including:
- Perception for navigation and manipulation
- Kinematics and motion control for 6DoF manipulators
- Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)
- Camera-based pose estimation of known objects
- Proficient in C++, Python, and Linux development
- Basic knowledge of electronics, communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, etc.), motors, mechanisms, machine learning, and related fields
- Experience with hardware products
- Exceptional communication and project management abilities
- Strong commitment to meeting ambitious deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in robotics engineering
- Familiarity with ROS 2 and related packages (Nav2, Moveit)
- Experience simulating robots in environments like Gazebo or Isaac Sim
- Experience with NVIDIA hardware and Isaac ROS packages
- Background in cross-functional team collaboration
