THE ROLE
As a Correctional Services Officer, you will have the chance to serve and safeguard your community in a distinctive manner, adhering to the Sheriff's Vision of comprehensive enforcement against crime and offenders, while providing consistent and humane treatment to individuals in our custody. Officers are assigned to both the South Lake Tahoe and Placerville facilities and may work in specialized units within the jails, such as Classification and Gangs, Inmate Services, and armed Transportation Officers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process incoming inmates and assist with their release from custody.
- Ensure safety and security while maintaining compliance with daily mandates; supervise inmate activities such as exercise, recreation, and visitation.
- Respond to emergencies within the facility, including medical situations, and provide immediate assistance as necessary.
- Monitor inmate activities, document incidents, and conduct searches for contraband and weapons.
- Utilize restraining devices to handcuff, subdue, and restrain individuals posing a danger to themselves or others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This recruitment is specifically for lateral Correctional Services Officers. To qualify as a lateral applicant, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have graduated from high school or possess a GED.
- Hold a certificate of completion from the BSCC Jail Operations Training Academy.
- Hold a certificate of completion from the PC 832 Arrest training.
- Have one year of experience equivalent to the County's class of Sheriff's Correctional Officer I.
