Lead Exploration Geologist

Purpose:
The Lead Exploration Geologist is responsible for overseeing, guiding, and actively participating in mineral exploration initiatives.
The main goal of this role is to ensure the successful progression of assigned projects, which includes supervising and mentoring Geologists and Project Geologists.
Additionally, the Lead Exploration Geologist will be tasked with generating innovative ideas and concepts to initiate new projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and implement extensive exploration initiatives.
- Build, lead, and inspire exploration teams consisting of contractors and field personnel, providing direct onsite oversight.
- Direct exploration team efforts to formulate exploration strategies by evaluating previous exploration outcomes and available data.
- Identify logistical requirements for programs and collaborate with support staff for contract services, coordinating across multiple projects.
- Provide exploration plan recommendations to management and stakeholders.
- Champion project promotion and advocacy.
- Lead exploration teams in executing approved exploration project strategies.
- Ensure all operations adhere to the highest safety standards, environmental protocols, and operational best practices in alignment with Millrock policies and expectations.
- Prepare, review, and approve project budgets, ensuring exploration projects are delivered within budgetary constraints (or promptly identify budgetary issues).
- Coordinate with support staff to maintain land tenure, fulfill assessment reporting obligations, and secure all necessary permits in good standing.
- Report project findings comprehensively and promptly to management, business partners, and regulatory bodies.- Safeguard the capture, safety, and integrity of all project data.
- Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective business partners, service providers, and local and regional project stakeholders.
- Generate new exploration opportunities.
- Advise on mineral rights acquisition and relinquishment.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Supervision / Influence:
Collaborate with office administrative personnel to achieve project objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology or a related discipline.
- Minimum of ten years of experience, including five years in drill projects.
- Experience in diverse terrains and deposit types.
- Strong technical writing capabilities.
- Prior experience in Alaska is advantageous.
- Proven ability to plan and execute field programs with minimal oversight.
- Dynamic, energetic, self-driven, and capable of making independent decisions.
- Enjoyment of outdoor work and ability to withstand challenging weather and terrain conditions.
- Proficient in GIS systems and basic MS Office software.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with Cordilleran Intrusion-Related Gold deposits and Porphyry Copper-Gold deposits.
Working Conditions:
- Comfortable working in rugged terrain and remote locations, often in an exploration camp environment.
- Willingness to spend extended periods away from the home base.
