Coeur Mining is a prominent U.S.-based company engaged in the production of precious metals, operating four fully-owned sites: the Palmarejo gold-silver complex in Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska, and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. Access to the mine is provided through company transportation, including bus and boat rides.

Position Summary:

The Environmental Compliance Specialist will report directly to the Environmental Coordinator and will be tasked with ensuring safe and efficient sampling, data collection, and regulatory reporting. This role includes conducting inspections and monitoring activities related to air, water, and waste compliance programs. The work schedule consists of 4 days on-site at the mine, followed by 3 days off, with occasional extended shifts for weekend coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct soil, groundwater, surface water, waste, sediment, and air sampling
  • Facilitate employee environmental awareness training as required
  • Collect, review, and analyze environmental data
  • Input data into an environmental database
  • Utilize field instruments and equipment to meet health and safety standards as well as sampling and operational requirements
  • Assist in preparing routine submissions to regulatory agencies to document system performance and compliance with permit conditions
  • Document all field activities and observations
  • Oversee subcontractor activities
  • Communicate effectively with project managers and client personnel
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness
  • Work within defined scopes, schedules, and budgets while delivering quality results
  • Stay informed about sampling procedures and protocols in accordance with industry standards

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Commitment to safety and promoting safe practices among colleagues
  • High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences or a related field is preferred
  • 1-3 years of environmental field experience in an industrial context is preferred
  • Ability to work in diverse environments, including exposure to outdoor weather conditions, potential hazards, and high noise levels
  • Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Strong work ethic and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse personalities; must be tactful, mature, and adaptable
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for tasks, with effective communication skills
  • Able to work in remote outdoor settings, often under inclement weather conditions
  • Willingness to work in an underground mining environment
  • Able to hike over uneven terrain
  • Occasional weekend work as scheduled
