About the Role:

The Field Service Mechanic Apprentice will have their tuition covered for a 2-year AAS Diesel Technology program at UAS, receive a living stipend, and gain practical experience at Tyler Rental while attending classes. The selected candidate must maintain a required grade point average each semester and demonstrate satisfactory attendance to retain eligibility in the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Upon successful completion of the UAS AAS Diesel Technology Program, the individual will be expected to commit to a minimum of 2 additional years of employment or may be required to reimburse tuition fees.
  • Coeur Alaska will supply essential tools needed during the training program.
  • Employees are expected to adhere to all company policies, including attendance, safety, environmental, and HR regulations. Understanding and compliance with the Environment, Health, Safety, and Social Responsibility Policies are mandatory. Employees must prioritize environmental protection and personal safety, as well as the safety of their colleagues.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory performance, attendance, and adherence to safety protocols while working at Tyler Rental.
  • Areas of learning while on-site include:
    1. Conducting pre-shift inspections of work areas and equipment.
    2. Performing maintenance and repairs on surface and/or underground mobile mining machinery, including drills, bolters, loaders, haul trucks, and both heavy and light-duty support equipment.
    3. Troubleshooting and repairing diesel and gas engines.
    4. Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems of mobile mining equipment.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Must be a resident of Alaska.
  • Eligibility for acceptance into the UAS AAS Diesel Technology Program:
    1. Maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
    2. Attend classes punctually.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Commitment to safety and the ability to promote safe practices among peers.
  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures is essential.
  • Strong analytical, technical, communication, and problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • Employees may encounter various work environments, including underground settings, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and potential hazards. The noise level in most work areas is typically very loud. This position may require working nights, weekends, and rotating shifts, necessitating residency in camp during work rotations.
  • Specific vision requirements for this role include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Sets high standards for self and others, fosters trust, and takes accountability.
