Position Summary:
The coding division at Norman Regional Health System, part of the Documentation Integrity Department, is dedicated to delivering prompt and compliant coding for all patient interactions. Our mission is to accurately narrate the patient's journey through precise and specific code assignments, enabling regulatory bodies and payers to effectively assess the services rendered. The Documentation Integrity department consists of coding experts, clinical documentation enhancement specialists, and denial management professionals who collaborate daily to ensure the most accurate representation of the patients and communities we serve through diagnosis and procedural coding, appropriate patient admission categorization, and denial appeal management when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Code a limited range of patient records to contribute to the hospital's case mix index database and health statistical measures.
- Conduct audits, code, and abstract diagnostic and procedural data while assigning the most suitable diagnostic related group (MS-DRG or APC).Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science or Associate degree in Applied Arts/Science or equivalent professional experience. Experience: A minimum of one year of professional coding experience is essential.
Licensure/Certification: Actively pursuing certification with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), and/or registration with the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or other equivalent coding credentials.
