Job Overview:
The Specialized Education Support Assistant plays a crucial role in aiding the academic, behavioral, and health/hygiene requirements of students as directed by Special Education Teachers. Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the supervision, care, and instruction of students with unique or specialized needs in inclusive classrooms or specialized programs.
  • Assisting in the execution of plans, interventions, and strategies for instruction focusing on academic, social/emotional, and life skills.
  • Implementing behavioral strategies developed by the IEP team for students with behavioral challenges or other special conditions to facilitate learning.
  • Collecting data regarding student needs and capabilities.
  • Providing assistance to students requiring toileting, feeding, and lifting support.
  • Monitoring students during assigned periods across various school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, parking lots) to ensure a safe and positive learning atmosphere.
  • Utilizing behavioral approaches such as ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) or CPI (Crisis Prevention) when necessary to support students in accessing the least restrictive environment (LRE).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member.
  • Assist students in various school settings (lunch, recess, restroom).
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work with students with disabilities or special needs.
  • Monitor and support student behavior.
  • Implement de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Qualifications:
  • Possession of one of the following State of Illinois Licenses registered in Will County: Paraprofessional (ELS(PARA)), Substitute (SUB), or Professional Educator License (PEL).
  • College transcripts indicating 60+ credit hours or successful completion of the WorkKeys Assessment.
  • Information on obtaining a Para license is available.
