Job Overview:
The role of the Special Education Paraprofessional is crucial in assisting with the educational, behavioral, and health needs of students as directed by Special Education Teachers. The Specialized Program Paraprofessional is tasked with delivering services and support to the instructional framework with specific responsibilities including:
  • Facilitating supervision, care, and instruction of students with distinct or specialized needs in both general and specialized educational settings.
  • Supporting the execution of plans, interventions, and strategies for teaching academic, social/emotional, and life skills.
  • Implementing behavioral strategies designed by the IEP team for students facing behavioral challenges or other special conditions to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Collecting data related to student needs and capabilities.
  • Assisting students who may require help with toileting, feeding, and lifting.
  • Monitoring students during assigned periods across various school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, parking lots, etc.) to maintain a safe and positive educational atmosphere.
  • The Specialized Program Paraprofessional may apply behavioral approaches such as ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) or CPI (Crisis Prevention) when working with students to ensure they receive the necessary support to access the least restrictive environment (LRE).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as a team member.
  • Support students across various school settings (lunch, recess, restroom).
  • Willingness to engage with students with disabilities or special needs.
  • Capability to monitor and manage student behavior.
  • Ability to implement de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Establish positive working relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Qualifications:
  • Possession of one of the following State of Illinois Licenses registered in Will County: Paraprofessional (ELS(PARA)), Substitute (SUB), or Professional Educator License (PEL).
  • College transcripts with 60+ credit hours or successful completion of the WorkKeys Assessment.
  • Information on how to obtain a Para license is available.
