Key Responsibilities- Assist instructors in preparing lesson materials, visual displays, and equipment to create engaging and inclusive learning environments.
- Support HIPsters (adults with IDD) in mastering assignments and reinforcing learning concepts, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
- Supervise HIPsters in classrooms, halls, cafeteria, and gymnasium, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist with teaching classes based on varied levels of cognition and provide accommodations for diverse student needs, promoting inclusive education.
- Contribute to writing lesson plans that meet the requirements outlined by the Educational Framework, ensuring alignment with our mission and values.
- Assist with facilitation and transportation of community-based instruction outings, fostering connections with the community and promoting social skills.
- Track and document daily attendance, maintaining accurate records and supporting data-driven decision-making.
- Support general program and lunch supervision, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- Maintain quality educational records, adhering to confidentiality guidelines and data protection protocols.
- Complete additional tasks assigned by supervisors, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
- 2+ years' experience as a teaching assistant or paraprofessional, with a strong background in supporting adults with IDD.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications and Google Drive, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Understanding of instructional methods, including curriculum-based instruction, and a commitment to inclusive education.
- Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and valid car insurance required.
- Clear background check with no related offenses jeopardizing program integrity.
- Experience working with adults with special needs, with a focus on creating inclusive and supportive environments.
- Experience working with behaviors, with a strong understanding of de-escalation techniques and crisis management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with HIPsters, instructors, and colleagues.
- Adaptability and flexibility, with a willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic environment.
