Job Overview

The Lead Engineer will be responsible for key functions in the following areas:

  • Creating cutting-edge product design solutions, enhancing current designs, and reducing cost implications within the refrigeration system
  • Boosting the energy efficiency of Dehumidifier products
  • Drafting engineering specifications
  • Assisting Product Engineering, Procurement, and Operations as needed

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Enhance and unify the design and development of products within the New Product Introduction (NPI) team.
  • Prepare and validate production documentation related to new designs.
  • Identify opportunities for product or productivity enhancements.
  • Collaborate with other departments as a technical resource for the product line.
  • Serve as a technical authority in design reviews and decisions.

Execution

  • Advance designs to completion through innovation and teamwork.
  • Implement project timelines, budgets, and performance objectives.

Process

  • Work collaboratively with the Engineering team and other departments to achieve goals and resolve issues.
  • Keep stakeholders informed and engaged regarding progress on key activities.
  • Communicate promptly with stakeholders about significant events.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Support Supplier selection & evaluation:
    • Assess alternative components against product specifications.
    • Assist in qualifying vendors to meet product requirements.
  • Provide application support to Product Management and New Product Introduction teams.
  • Contribute technical insights for Continuous Improvement projects (Cost and Quality).
  • Collaborate with Lab Operations and Product Approval teams:
    • Design experiments for product development and problem resolution.
    • Develop testing plans to validate product design concepts.
  • Adhere to engineering and problem-solving principles in daily tasks.
  • Offer technical input in NPI activities and Engineering design reviews.
  • Government and Regulatory Compliance
    • Understand key requirements of Energy Efficiency testing and safety standards relevant to HVAC/R products.
    • Lead initiatives to ensure products comply with the latest Energy standards and regulatory requirements.

Essential Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of refrigeration sealed systems, including:
    • Analyzing psychometrics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
    • Guiding the Sourcing team in selecting key components for refrigeration and air-moving systems.
    • Directing model shop activities for product prototyping, developing test plans, and conducting developmental testing.
  • Strong commitment to enhancing Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and achieving healthy air standards.
  • Experience leading HVAC/R research projects involving empirical testing, simulation, innovative technologies, and data collection.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks; design capability is a plus.
  • Expertise in CoilDesigner and VapCyc or similar heat exchanger design tools; highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with JMP, Minitab, or similar statistical software; design capability is a plus.
  • Industry experience in consumer, commercial, and/or electronic products that are mass-produced.
  • Strong technical communication skills.
  • Able to produce professional engineering outputs with minimal supervision.
  • Team-oriented – Skilled in collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Motivated – High energy and urgency in driving projects to completion.
  • Project Management – Skilled in planning and managing projects from conception to execution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading or playing a key role in teams to launch new products using a New Product Development process.
  • Familiarity with regulations, standards, and codes from organizations such as IEC, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, UL, AHRI, and ASHRAE.
  • Understanding of Design for Six Sigma is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental, reliability, and qualification testing.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing and manufacturing products that incorporate refrigeration systems, such as appliances, HVAC products, or automotive products.
  • Experience in designing high-volume products is preferred.
  • Experience with industry codes and standards.
  • Work authorization in the US is required for all candidates.
