Job Overview

The Chief Facilities Officer is responsible for overseeing the Facilities and Housekeeping teams, ensuring the effective upkeep of the Long Center campus and all associated systems and partner venues. Leveraging extensive experience in managing event-centric facilities, this role collaborates across departments to guarantee consistent and professional performance at the venue.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate organizational directives, policies, and procedures that promote efficient operations and programs for facilities management.
  • Design and implement comprehensive preventative and routine maintenance programs for the facility and mechanical systems, aligned with budgetary constraints and operational needs.
  • Lead managers and teams in the Facilities, Housekeeping, and Operations Departments to effectively coordinate activities across all assigned functional areas.
  • Establish, execute, and enhance departmental systems and objectives that support both daily operations and long-term goals.
  • Advise the Executive team on all matters related to engineering, mechanical systems, building services, custodial services, electrical services, safety, and transportation.
  • In partnership with the leadership team and relevant public safety authorities, develop and refine Emergency Response Programs, including safety and emergency procedures such as fire, medical, evacuation, weather response, and alarm systems.
  • Collaborate across departments to facilitate the planning, staffing, and execution of events and operations.
  • Prepare annual budgets and forecasts for all facility support systems and teams.
  • Conduct routine financial planning, management, and reporting.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective solutions for unforeseen maintenance needs.
  • Recommend modifications, enhancements, and replacements for existing capital equipment and physical plant facilities.
  • Plan and manage annual capital improvement projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Oversee facility service contracts and contractors, manage RFPs, negotiate contracts, and ensure fulfillment of the scope of work.
  • Develop and implement training programs, career paths, departmental structures, and individual goal-setting to support team development and retention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in architectural design, civil or mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of operations, techniques, and procedures involved in managing large, complex facilities, with a minimum of five years of progressive management experience in facilities such as performing arts theaters, urban civic centers, conference hotels, or convention facilities.
  • Ten years of increasing responsibility and experience leading a large, multidisciplinary team of facility personnel.
  • Proven knowledge of business management principles, including project management, budget administration, procurement, and resource coordination.
  • Experience in managing capital construction and major renovation projects.
  • Familiarity with modern safety and security procedures applicable to high-traffic, public facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit calm, decisive leadership in high-pressure situations.
  • Successful experience in planning and overseeing regulated environmental and public safety operations.
