Join Our Team as a Safety and Security Specialist

As a Safety and Security Specialist, you will play a crucial role in upholding and advancing our daily security operations. You will be part of a dedicated team of professionals committed to supporting the objectives of APL's analysts, engineers, and scientists.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Identification Verification: Confirm the identity of employees and visitors through badge checks and security databases, ensuring control over all incoming and outgoing items.
  • Facility Patrol: Conduct regular inspections of interior premises to guarantee adherence to established security protocols.
  • Vehicle Operation: Utilize APL vehicles to monitor external areas, enforcing security measures and parking regulations.
  • Reporting: Document security incidents and prepare reports for review by security leadership.
  • Miscellaneous Tasks: Engage in various duties, including the use of fire extinguishers, lifting heavy items, and implementing defense techniques.

You will be assigned to one of three rotating shifts: 7 AM to 3 PM, 3 PM to 11 PM, or 11 PM to 7 AM.

Qualifications:
  • A High School diploma or equivalent, along with one year of relevant security experience (e.g., military, law enforcement, corrections), or at least sixty (60) college credits in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Psychology, Cybersecurity) from an accredited institution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, sufficient for effective communication and report preparation.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with security databases and email.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license in good standing.
  • Willingness to work occasional mandatory overtime.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date, with the potential to achieve a Secret level clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Completion of accredited training in defense tactics, CPR, standard first aid, and basic criminal investigation.
  • Possession of an active Secret clearance or higher is preferred.
