As an APL Security Specialist, your responsibilities will include...
  • Verifying the identity of personnel and visitors through badge checks and/or utilizing security databases, while managing the control of all incoming and outgoing items.
  • Conducting patrols and inspections of interior facilities to ensure adherence to established security protocols.
  • Operating APL vehicles to monitor external areas and ensure compliance with security procedures, including enforcing parking regulations.
  • Documenting security-related incidents and preparing reports for security leadership.
  • Performing various tasks, including the use of fire extinguishers, lifting heavy items (e.g., classified waste), and employing defensive tactics.
  • Working one of three 24/7 shifts as designated by the hiring manager: 7AM to 3PM, 3PM to 11PM, or 11PM to 7AM.

  • Hold a High School diploma or equivalent, along with one year of security-related experience (e.g., military, law enforcement, corrections), or possess a minimum of sixty (60) college credits in a relevant field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Psychology, Cybersecurity) from an accredited institution.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, maintaining a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Are proficient in spoken and written English to effectively perform job tasks, including interaction with diverse individuals and preparation of written reports.
  • Possess basic computer skills, including the ability to utilize a security database and email.
  • Hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license in good standing.
  • Are willing and able to occasionally work mandatory overtime.
  • Can obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and ultimately achieve a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will undergo a government security clearance investigation and must meet the criteria for access to classified information, including U.S. citizenship.
  • Can achieve satisfactory results from a pre-employment physical examination prior to your start date.

  • Have successfully completed accredited training in defensive tactics (e.g., restraint and handcuffing techniques), as well as CPR, standard first aid, and basic criminal investigation.
