About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cybersecurity Vulnerability Specialist to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. As a key member of our IT security team, you will play a critical role in evaluating and remediating vulnerabilities in our information systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vulnerability Assessment and Remediation: Utilize multiple vulnerability scanning software packages to evaluate over 20 Information Systems, ranging from standalone laptops to nation-wide WANs, and report vulnerabilities to the security team with a focus on prioritization for remediation.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work with security specialists, Information System Security Officers, and technical experts in Windows, Linux, networking, and storage to test efforts and processes to eliminate or mitigate system vulnerabilities, considering security and ongoing operations and system availability.
  • Process Documentation and Metrics Development: Collaborate with technical team leads and others to document processes for remediation efforts and develop metrics for presentation to group management and security providers.
  • Security Publication Monitoring: Monitor government, industry, and other security publications for new and potential vulnerabilities and make response recommendations to security and technical specialists.
  • Proactive Security Posture Development: Work with teams and individuals from multiple security and technical disciplines to develop and maintain a proactive security posture for our information systems and operations as a whole.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Possess a BS in Cybersecurity or Information Technology field or a combination of equivalent level of relevant experience and education in the Cybersecurity or Information Technology domain.
  • Vulnerability Scanner Experience: Have experience working with vulnerability scanners like ACAS and Nessus.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work with security/technical professionals, program management, and program users.
  • Risk Management Framework and Compliance: Have experience in Risk Management Framework (RMF), NISPOM, and DAAPM based environments.
  • Security Clearance: Hold an active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Splunk and System Monitoring Experience: Have experience with Splunk or other system monitoring applications.
  • DCSA Accreditation and Compliance: Have experience working directly with DCSA accredited compliant and non-compliant Information Systems.
  • Vulnerability Remediation Experience: Have experience remediating vulnerabilities in technologies like storage appliances and virtualization systems.
  • Detection and Remediation Strategies: Have developed detection and remediation strategies for enterprise environments.
