Welding at Altec :

Position Purpose:

Execute welding and metal preparation duties, including sanding and grinding configurations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate, fit, and cut materials to adhere to blueprint specifications.
  • Conduct GMAW and/or FCAW welding utilizing various arc and gas welding tools.
  • Trim, file, grind, sand, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces with hand tools and portable power equipment.
  • Operate and comprehend all machinery within the designated work area.
  • Layout and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials using knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques.
  • Inspect assemblies/components to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Read and interpret schematics (blueprints) and work orders accurately.
  • Utilize basic hand tools such as tape measures and specialized equipment.
  • Perform rework as necessary.
  • Maintain daily time logs and any additional required documentation.
  • Support APS (Altec Production System) initiatives and may engage in continuous improvement activities.
  • Transition to other work areas to meet production demands (cross-training).
  • Effectively train new and current associates.
  • Adhere to established safety, environmental, and quality policies, procedures, and practices, including proper use and maintenance of PPE.
  • Keep the work area and shop tools/equipment in good condition.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Altec's core values.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must:

  • possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • have the ability to read, write, and comprehend effectively.
  • demonstrate basic computer skills.
  • be capable of reading tape measures, blueprints, and schematics.
  • hold a welding technology degree/certificate or have 2+ years of relevant welding experience (consideration may be given if degree is in progress).
  • achieve AWS D.1.1 weld certification within three months of employment.
