Ophthalmic Care Specialist

As an Ophthalmic Technician with G Brock Magruder MD PA, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting our team of ophthalmologists and optometrists. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing patients for examinations, performing routine vision screenings, and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough ophthalmic histories and preliminary exams, including sub-specialty tests and visual acuity assessments.
- Verify patient information and accurately record medical history and examination results in our electronic medical record system.
- Prepare patients for ophthalmology examinations by dilating pupils, checking visual acuity, and communicating results to attending physicians.
- Secure patient information and maintain confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records and diagnostic coding.
- Counsel patients on the use of eye drops, contact lenses, and other treatments, as well as answer questions about surgery and specialty imaging.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required; minimum of one year experience in ophthalmology preferred.
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products and electronic medical record systems.
Work Environment:
- This position requires sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day, with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
- Visual requirements include close visual acuity to perform tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal.
- Environmental conditions are typical of an office setting, with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
