Job OverviewThe New York Public Library is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Library Page. As a Library Page, you will play a vital role in supporting the library's mission to provide free access to information and resources for all New Yorkers. Your primary responsibilities will include shelving and arranging books, CDs, DVDs, and other library materials, answering in-person inquiries, and assisting patrons with basic computer and audio/visual equipment usage. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patrons, responding to their inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Shelve and arrange library materials in a neat and organized manner, ensuring that they are easily accessible to patrons
  • Assist patrons with basic computer and audio/visual equipment usage, including printing, scanning, and photocopying
  • Locate and prepare library materials requested by patrons, ensuring that they are available for checkout
  • Assist staff with checking materials for damage and removing them from the shelves
  • Help set up public spaces for events and programs, ensuring that they are well-organized and visually appealing

Requirements
  • Current enrollment in a degree program at an accredited school
  • Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently sort and arrange items in alphanumeric order
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow detailed instruction in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse patronage
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated reliability and professionalism
  • Basic computer and basic technology skills such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic computer and printer issues preferred
  • Experience with eReaders and library technologies preferred
  • Ability to speak foreign languages preferred
