Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Relief Operator to join our team at Steel Energy Services. As a Relief Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our workover rigs, providing exceptional customer service, and contributing to the success of our company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assume the role of Operator in the absence of the Rig Operator, ensuring seamless continuity of operations.
  • Organize and lead the rig crew, conducting Job Safety Meetings and delegating tasks as needed.
  • Drive the rig to the work site, operate the rig and equipment, and direct the crew to set up and prepare the rig for tasks.
  • Direct the assigned floor hands and derrick hands to safely perform service tasks, documenting services performed and billable supplies used.
  • Clean, fuel, repair, and maintain workover rig equipment, including greasing, changing oils, and lubricants as needed.
  • Participate in company-provided training in rig operations, Standard Operating Procedures, and safe work procedures.
  • Comply with client and company safe operating procedures, ensuring maximum protection for workers, the environment, and equipment.
Requirements
  • Available to work beyond traditional 8-hour workdays, including Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays, to meet operational needs.
  • Dependability is essential, with unauthorized absences resulting in discipline up to and including employment termination.
  • Able to work at heights up to or greater than 50 feet.
  • Perform maintenance services and repairs on oil and gas wells as part of a three-to-five-person crew.
  • Lead daily pre-job tailgate safety meetings and write JHA's.
  • Inspect and document all lift equipment on location.
  • Lead the crew in rigging up and rigging down the workover Rig in a safe manner.
  • Pull and lay down rods, tubing, and casing by operating the rig controls.
  • Guide and manage the rig crew daily.
  • Assist in training and mentoring SSE employees and floor hands as needed.
  • Assist Rig Manager in various tasks anywhere on the rig as directed.
  • Drive company vehicles, including the Crew pick-up truck and the Rig.
  • Perform workshop and SWS Yard maintenance and repair work as required.
  • Assist Steel Energy Services management personnel as required.
  • Prepare rig tickets correctly and in a timely fashion.
