Position Summary

New York Cares is in search of a Human Resources Specialist to enhance the effective execution of administrative functions. This role will involve assisting with payroll processing, managing employee benefits, and collaborating with various departments on recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding initiatives. The Specialist will also engage in research to identify best practices and propose enhancements to existing processes. Reporting to the Director of Talent, this position is vital for maintaining operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide payroll assistance, including data processing, reporting to payroll services, and managing check verification and distribution.
  • Act as the primary contact for benefits administration, overseeing staff needs, evaluating benefits cost-effectiveness, and developing resources such as quick reference guides.
  • Conduct training sessions on Talent policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Manage recruitment processes in collaboration with department leaders, including drafting job descriptions, advertising positions, reviewing applications, coordinating interviews, and preparing offer letters.
  • Regularly assess industry standards and best practices in Talent management, offering proactive recommendations for integration.
  • Identify and implement operational enhancements to streamline Talent processes and documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and city regulations within specified timelines.
  • Participate in a flexible hybrid work schedule, including in-office days.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, though we recognize that historically marginalized groups may be less likely to apply if they do not meet every requirement. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.

  • 2-5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit, educational, or governmental setting.
  • Proficient in key human resources functions, including employee relations, talent acquisition, and compensation and benefits.
  • Knowledgeable about New York State and City labor laws and employment policies.
  • Familiar with HR software such as ADP and recruitment platforms like Indeed and LinkedIn Recruiter.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and professional discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • PHR certification is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Forms, etc.).
  • Experience with project management tools, ideally Asana.
  • Alignment with New York Cares' mission and a dedication to personal and professional development.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$72,000, commensurate with experience. This role is part of a comprehensive compensation package that includes generous paid leave, medical, dental, and vision coverage, access to e-learning resources, and tax-advantaged accounts.
