Job Summary

The City of Boynton Beach is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Beach Rescue and Safety Professional to join our team. As an Ocean Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of visitors to the beach, providing emergency first aid, and making rescues as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the activities of visitors to the beach and supervise swimmers in the area
  • Take preventive safety actions, provide emergency first aid, and perform CPR as needed
  • Make rescues, contact medical or emergency personnel when necessary, and assist boaters in distress
  • Set up and break down lifeguard towers, evaluate and inform the public of ocean conditions
  • Observe ocean conditions, swim in rough water and strong surf to assist swimmers and make rescues as needed
  • Provide emergency first aid, utilize basic life support equipment, and perform CPR
  • Operate rescue boards, rescue buoys, rescue boats, and other rescue equipment as needed
  • Assist in locating missing persons, provide information, and answer patrons' questions
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness, complete mandatory workouts, and maintain training in medical rescues
  • Prepare incident reports and perform other related duties as required
Requirements
  • High school diploma or valid equivalent
  • Two months of previous experience involving lifeguard training
  • Professional lifeguard certification
  • CPR/First Aid certification from American Heart Association BLS or American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuers
  • Emergency Medical Response Certification or EMT/Paramedic Certification
  • Valid State of Florida driver's license
Working Conditions

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work four days a week at ten hours a day, with the possibility of working weekends as needed. The incumbent will be exposed to adverse environmental conditions, including odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
