WORK OBJECTIVE

Engages in proficient ocean rescue and aquatic safety operations to safeguard residents and visitors enjoying the City's beaches. Responsibilities encompass rigorous physical training and conditioning, as well as ensuring compliance with established laws, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to public beach usage. This role necessitates significant communication, interaction, and engagement with the general public. Duties are performed under close supervision with limited discretion for independent judgment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates must successfully complete training from the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) or an equivalent organization, or finish a training academy within three months of employment. Bi-annual requalification is mandatory, which includes swimming 500 meters in 10 minutes or less. Certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are required. Additionally, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training in communicable disease transmission prevention is necessary. State of Florida EMT and/or Paramedic certifications are preferred and may qualify for a 2.5% certification increase (applicable to permanent part-time roles).

National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification is required (level determined by job classification requirements), or must be obtained within one year of employment. A valid Florida driver's license is essential, along with a satisfactory driving record throughout employment. Additional formal industry certifications may be required based on specific assignments.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Various positions are available within the Parks and Recreation Department. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications may undergo a comprehensive selection process, which may include evaluations of training and experience, background investigations, medical evaluations, and controlled substance screenings.

Applicants must sign an affidavit confirming non-use of tobacco products to be considered for employment.
