Position Overview: The Aquatic Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons at the aquatic facility. This role involves vigilant supervision of pool activities and prompt response to emergencies.

Department: Recreation and Parks - Recreation

Classification Purpose: The primary purpose of this classification is to safeguard lives by monitoring and ensuring the safety of visitors at the pool.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the activities of pool visitors, taking proactive safety measures.
  • Administer emergency first aid and perform CPR as needed.
  • Conduct rescues and coordinate with medical personnel in emergencies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of the pool and surrounding areas.
  • Engage with patrons, addressing conflicts and explaining facility rules.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance lifeguarding skills.
  • Provide swimming instruction to individuals and groups.
  • Handle registration and manage cash transactions.
  • Assist in organizing and executing special events.
  • Maintain personal fitness through mandatory training sessions.
  • Document incidents and prepare reports as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the pool area is free from hazardous debris.
  • Assist in the upkeep of pool equipment.
  • Respond to phone inquiries.
  • Perform other related tasks as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess (or be able to obtain within fourteen days of hire) a valid Florida driver's license.
  • Must hold and maintain current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR, AED, and First Aid, or equivalent certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is desirable.

Communication Skills:

Effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, and the public is essential for coordinating activities and resolving issues.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Understanding of safety policies and procedures relevant to the aquatic facility.
  • Ability to assess situations, make sound judgments, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Skills in teaching swimming and conducting training sessions.
  • Capacity to maintain a clean and safe environment for all visitors.
